SNEAK PEEK: Our new distribution center is almost complete

Earlier this summer, the Dakota County Tribune toured our plant and learned about our new 70,000-square-foot distribution center. Read the full story here. The new facility – primed to be operational any day now – will be the center of our cooling and shipping processes. I’m proud that the idea for this more efficient cooling and storage area came from within our team. Instead of taking up space in the production area, finished ingots will cool in the distribution center until they’re ready to be shipped to our customers. While they’re cooling, we’ll capture the heat generated to keep our facility warm in the winter. It also streamlines our processes and creates a more comfortable environment for our team.

To everyone who contributed to this project: thank you! Our team members are always striving to improve the way we recycle aluminum at Spectro Alloys and it makes a real difference in our business.

Spectro's Renee Toy named president of the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries’ Upper Midwest Chapter

Congratulations are in order to our own Renee Toy, Director of Supply Chain at Spectro Alloys, who has been named the president of the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries’ Upper Midwest Chapter.

In this new role, Renee will lead the chapter’s seven-member board of directors and fulfill its mission of promoting safe, economically sustainable, and environmentally responsible recycling through networking, advocacy, and education within its Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin footprint.

An Eau Claire, Wisconsin native with more than 40 years of recycling industry experience, Renee has been with Spectro Alloys since 2008.

“I am truly grateful for the opportunity,” said Renee. “I love the industry and what I do, and I love the people who work for and with me here at Spectro.”

Congratulations, Renee, and thank you for your continued commitment and service to our Spectro team, suppliers, and community!

Spring at Spectro: New shifts, seasonal positions and more

Spring is around the corner, and we are looking forward to warmer months at the plant. Traditionally, this time of year is when many people first get their start at Spectro through seasonal jobs. Many of us have spent our summers staying active by stacking ingot and sorting scrap. This year, we’re once again looking for seasonal help to join our team and are now offering new part-time shifts.

Spectro is a great place for anyone looking for a physical job in an outdoor environment. We hope that a new influx of seasonal and part-time employees will balance current workloads and reduce the overtime hours of our hardworking staff, allowing you to enjoy these summer months! Please continue to refer friends and family to Spectro to take advantage of our referral incentive. Click here to view open positions.

We’re also looking forward to opening our new distribution center this summer. It’s taking shape before our eyes as construction ramps up. Check out this March progress photo:

Lastly, a reminder that April 22 is Earth Day! In our day-to-day work, it’s easy to overlook the important contributions you’re making to our environment by playing a role in aluminum recycling – the greatest recycling success story. Our operations have recycled more than 5 billion pounds of aluminum. The energy saved through recycling at Spectro is enough to power every home in Rosemount for 675 years! We hope you take pride in this work and the positive impact you’re making.
