We're Losing The Recycling Race

Today's Forbes article illustrates the gap between the US and much of the world when it comes to recycling municipal waste. As a country we have a ways to go when it comes to reducing the burden on landfills. 

Thankfully we are doing significantly better when it comes to aluminum - nearly 100% of all domestic industrial aluminum scrap is recycled, and around 75% of all aluminum ever produced is still in circulation. While recycling some materials creates a net loss in value and energy consumption, aluminum recycling is hugely positive.  Recycling aluminum saves over 90% of the energy used to create new aluminum, and the aluminum industry as a whole generates $65 Billion in direct economic impact.
