Read MoreOver the past week many states have issued shelter in place orders forcing the temporary shutdown of all businesses that are deemed non-essential. While Minnesota has not issued a similar order yet, it appears that one may be coming. Please know that even if the Governor of Minnesota does issue a Shelter in Place order, your supply of recycled aluminum from Spectro Alloys will not be affected. With dozens of customers producing cast aluminum products for the medical, transportation, agricultural and defense industries, Spectro Alloys has already been confirmed as an essential business by the State of Minnesota, and will be able to continue operations even under a shelter in place order.
With the release of ISO 9001:2015 the manufacturing community noticed a significant shift in Quality Management System (QMS) requirements. The emphasis of the QMS morphed into a business solution, providing organizations with a framework for a process approach that guides and directs daily activities. The transition was even more evident in the automotive industry. With the release of IATF 16949:2016, the automotive industry experienced the biggest change since the original release of TS / ISO 16949 in 1999.
Over the last several months, Spectro Alloys has evaluated our policies & procedures and studied our processes in an effort to build a roadmap toward certification. We’re proud to say that in addition to our ISO 9001:2015 certification, we are fully compliant to the International Automotive Task Force (IATF) Minimum Automotive Quality Management System Requirements (MAQMSR). While the time and cost associated with attaining IATF 16949:2016 may be prohibitive for many sub-tier suppliers, Spectro Alloys recognizes the significance of this achievement.
Established by the IATF for the purpose of assisting tiered suppliers in certification, MAQMSR provides a set of key automotive requirements for sub-tier suppliers. The practices outlined in the MAQMSR help organizations take a structured approach to managing and improving their QMS, while working toward certification for IATF 16949:2016. The primary focus areas include: Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), Product Safety, and Risk Management. Each of these principles are at the core of Spectro’s QMS and actively contribute to our production activities.
